Patti's Mission

"I had the privilege of starting working in hospice in the early days, the early '80's. It wasn't so much about death, it was about living. It was about giving people permission to make their own choices about care. It was helping families take care of their loved ones. It was about empowering people to live a full life until the end of their life, and it was such a privilege to be part of the beginnings of that. My whole life has been a real privilege because of that work.

I like to partner with my clients.  Hospice is about teamwork.  It's about valuing everyone's point of view.  Everyone has a point of view:the home Health Aid, the Housekeeper, the Nurse, the Physician, and one is not better than another.  It's all the BIG view of a patient and the family they are are caring for.

And so I think the same way of Organizations.  So if you can get a picture of what that Organization's going through, then you have a better sense of what you can do to help improve it.

I never forget, that what I do, my work affects that dying person and their family in the bedside, and that's what motivates me.  And if I can help organizations:

  • Be better and provide excellent care,
  • Be financially stable,
  • Be the best at what they do in their community,

then I know I've made a difference for dying patients and their families."

The Watershed Group

In 1999, Patti founded The Watershed Group, a unique consulting firm dedicated to supporting organizations and staff who provide end-of-life care. Since then, she has worked closely with more than 100 hospice organizations and other service organizations nationwide.

Her primary goal is to ensure that people facing serious, life-threatening illnesses have the kind of support and care they need to live full, dignified lives. To achieve that goal,

Patti has built a strategic consulting company based on several key concepts of hospice care: wholeness, dignity, respect, and empowerment.

As President of The Watershed Group, Patti uses these concepts to help organizations successfully manage change. She helps organizations turn potential crises into opportunities for business growth and financial stability so they may fulfill their mission.

Patti offers a wide range of expertise to her clients, drawing from over three decades of experience in healthcare and hospice. She customizes a blend of critical services to meet the specific needs of each client, including consulting, speaking, talent management and acquisition, strategic advising for executives, workshops, and retreats.

Patti is passionate about helping both individuals and leadership teams to recognize and claim their own strengths. Organizations that work with Patti can expect to realize their full potential, especially during periods of uncertainty, change, and transition.

Every organization has its “watershed moments”: periods of transition and/or turning points that can either make or break a company. In 1999, Patti Moore founded a unique consulting firm to help organizations make the most of those turning point moments—transforming potential crises into organizational growth and financial stability. She called this firm The Watershed Group.

Kind Words from Clients

Since our launch, The Watershed Group has helped over 100 hospice care companies and other service organizations turn organizationally disruptive situations into opportunities for increased productivity, financial strength, and positive change. In short, we enable our clients to achieve meaningful results by aligning vision with mission. Here are some of their testimonials ...

Pamela Morris,
President and CEO CareSource

“Patti Moore and The Watershed Group assisted The Hospice of Dayton in recruiting a new CEO to replace a 10 year veteran who was set to retire at the end of 2010. Patti met with the Search Committee to learn firsthand what type of CEO we wanted to lead the organization into the future. Her prior knowledge of our organization was very helpful in accelerating the recruiting process. Patti presented us a list of high caliber candidates and helped prioritize the top 2 candidates who came for in-person interviews. She had detailed knowledge about what each candidate brought in terms of strengths and fit with the culture of our organization. We could not have completed our search within 6 months without a seasoned recruiter like Patti Moore. Her extensive knowledge of the Hospice industry was instrumental in facilitating a successful process. We would use Patti’s services again in the future and would serve as a very satisfied reference for the Watershed Group!”

Karen Rollins

CEO, Avow

“Patti has been, without a doubt, the very best guide, role model, confidant, and mentor that I have ever had the pleasure of working with in my career. I am absolutely certain that what success we have had at Avow has been in large part thanks to the wise and honorable advice and support [she] provided in our many times of adversity and need.”

Diana Franchitto

“Nice work, Patti. If there was anyone that could find the right person, for the right position, at the right time (my version of the “Triple Aim”!), it was you. Very grateful.”

Patti utilized various creative techniques to encourage members of our team to use our ‘whole’ brain to develop the vision for how Valley Hospice will look like in the future, and the plan to create that vision.”

Pat Cahill

“Patti, you are certainly the person who brought our new CEO and VP of Business Development to the table for consideration by the Search Committee.
While we made the decision to offer them as candidates, you should take great credit for identifying them and convincing them of the possibilities in these positions. It was my pleasure to work with you and I too, look forward to a re-connect in the future.”

Jamie O’Malley

Laura Tabone

Clinical Director

“It is always wonderful to spend a day at one of your workshops-relaxing, refreshing and re-charging. Thank you for doing what you do! ”

Hospice Executive Committee Board Member

“Thank you very much for a simply outstanding job of selecting the “visionaries” for last week’s session and for moderating the session in a very professional manner. We all gained a great deal of insight from the meeting and have a long list of things “to do” as a result. It appears that all the attendees left the meeting in high spirits and with great enthusiasm for the future. Congratulations for a job very well done.”

Vice President, Hospice Board of Directors

“I feel you did a wonderful job in the exact vein of our mission: you took a dire and delicate job, and you executed it professionally & clinically with compassion & dignity; this is the spirit of our organization. Thank you.”

Hospice CEO

“Hi Patti, we are doing well and making good progress since your visit here. Our General In-patient days were 38% in July which is a great improvement, we have had almost no barrier/wait days and our staffing is stronger with benefited staff. Documentation is much more up to date and we plan to hire a project manager to get the IPU software for the house up and running by early next year! Your visit was a catalyst for change and helped me demonstrate how important and serious change was. Thank you”

Hospice CEO

“I loved your book! Wish I would have had it my first week in this job! Many will benefit greatly. It’s a great refresher for all of us as well. Also Patti I really like that it is not a 500 page tome – us hard workers don’t have time for that – this is a practical, wise and focused guidebook to how to get it right – I’m buying them for my management team for Christmas and they will LOVE it. Is there nothing you cannot do?!”

Karen, Volunteer Supervisor

“I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the opportunity to attend the wonderful Managers Retreat last week. Patti was GREAAAT! This was a fun, learning and bonding experience. I learned a lot about myself as well as others. Thank you for all that you do for our employees, our patients and for Hospice.”
