Why you need this course

This training will discuss components of healthy workplace cultures based on staff safety and belonging, shared vulnerability and shared purpose.  The basic factors of trust are empathy, authenticity and logic. It all starts with staff; their Behavior drives culture. Culture always drives performance and Culture always trumps strategy.  Cultures of care start with leaders who care who hire people who are authentic and genuinely care about others.

Learner Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. define the meaning of culture and explain how it relates to an organization’s mission
  2. identify the 4 key factors that contribute to powerful teams
  3. list 3 management behaviors needed to build employee commitment to the culture of care
  4. describe one company’s philosophy of ensuing positive employee relations.

Teaching Methods

Training may include self-paced learning, audio and/or video and computer-assisted instruction.  Use of case studies, examples, question and answer periods and group exercises will be used.

Evaluation Methods

Participants will be provided an evaluation form that addresses satisfaction with the presentation, with the facility and with recommendations for future presentations. 

To evaluate the participant’s newly learned knowledge, a 10 question post-course test will be used.

Executive Director

HNCF was of one of the largest, not for profit hospices in the US, serving 11 Counties in north central Florida, sample accomplishments include:

  • Significant growth: from 3 FTE’s to 200 FTE’s and Budget from $40,000 to $12 Million
  • Expansion into rural areas with 4 satellite offices operating independently
  • Successfully transitioned a free service into a state licensed, Medicare certified organization
  • Developed infrastructure and operating systems for expansion
  • Established fund development department
  • Developed strong mission driven leadership teams
  • Put together a team of experts to conceive, design, plan and operate an 18 bed, hospice house with attached administrative offices totaling 34,000 square feet
  • Led a Capital Campaign effort to raise $4 Million for the hospice house facility
  • Offered extraordinary hospice care to patients regardless of their ability to pay, diagnosis, place of residence or caregiver status in a time when other programs had restrictions on admission
  • Developed state of the art volunteer trainings and programs resulting in > 450 volunteers participating in a variety of settings
  • Offered Comprehensive hospice care for all ages, all diagnosis, all settings with creative arts programs, multiple volunteer opportunities, expansive bereavement programs
  • Established internships for medical and nursing students from the University of Florida
  • Consistently offered a work setting with built-in support, internal promotion, flexible schedules, where all staff were passionate about their work, respected/trusted one another and had fun
